Windows Vista on Toshiba Satellite M30 – Hardware ,Drivers — RTM Update
Vista RTM Update
Apparently Toshiba decided not to support old M30′s for Windows Vista. Now it’s not possible to find common modules for vista. Their new driver so called “Toshiba Value Added Package” seems to work at first; however the hybernate and sleeping functions stops working after installing it. So it’s not worth to install it. Now the only thing specific to Toshiba that works is my display card and I can still get 2.0 aero score. Beside that Fn keys stopped working. Anyway my system is stable and fast, Windows Vista Power management is far better than Toshiba Powersave as well.
I just moved to Windows Vista RC1 last weekend. I installed and configured almost everything. However, there were some hardware issues after installing, and I have had a score of 1.0 which disables aero.
Graphic Card
The graphic card driver was not installed, I always use the latest Nvidia drivers from the Nvidia site, but M30′s card Geforce FX Go5200 is not supported by the latest Nvidia drivers. You need to download the latest Vista drivers from Nvidia site then mod the nv_disp.inf file in the package. Here is an explanation on how to do that on Windows XP : GeForce FX Go5200 with latest ForceWare drivers | skriker. This still works with a little change. First you need to extract the contents of the driver file.
- Add two lines to [NVIDIA.Mfg.NTx86.6.0] section
%NVIDIA_NV34.DEV_0324.1% = nv_NV3x, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0324
%NVIDIA_NV34.DEV_0324.3% = nv_NV3x, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0324 - Add two lines to ; Localizable Strings section
NVIDIA_NV34.DEV_0324.1 = “NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200″
NVIDIA_NV34.DEV_0324.3 = “NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200 “ - Install it using the setup.exe
After doing that my score went to 2.0 which is still not high but I can see the visual goodies.
Toshiba Drivers
There is no driver for Toshiba Satellite on the download page. After a little googling I just found that Toshiba provided some drivers for Tecra series. I just tried and seems to be working for me. Toshiba’s Windows Vista beta drivers page. Here is the list what I have installed
- Toshiba Common Modules version 6.04.00 Beta 1
- Intel Chipset Driver version 8.1.0.1006(Kit9095)
- Hotkey Utility for Display Devices version 2.9.3.0
You can find those drivers from the Vista beta drives site, I used Tecra M4 drivers but all of the models points to the same driver.
I then installed Toshiba Console from the Windows XP drivers.
Others
I tried to install Toshiba Power Saver, but it’s not working. I really liked the power manager of Windows Vista so I don’t need Power Saver at all. Infrared and SD Card drivers are not needed, because Windows Vista automatically install them.
Conclusion
I have a rating of 2. Aero is working. All Toshiba keyboard Fn keys are working including Esc through F8 except F2, so I can do stand by, monitor, brightness etc. which are everything I want from my keyboard.

Hi Can,
Thanks for this post… I am halfway through an RC1 install on a M30 and your post will save me a lot of time. Have you stuck with RC1? Working OK?
Terry
Hi Terry,
I am still using it. It’s working OK. However I need more memory to make it work better
Hey,
I’ve just installed RC2 (5744) on my M70. everything working great, performance is awesome and things run very smoothly. I have tried to install some of the Toshiba RC1 drivers, had some luck with a few, but had compatibility errors for the Toshiba Common Modules version 6.04.00 Beta 1 and a few of the others… did anyone else have problems like this?
Hi,
I tried installing the nvidia driver with the recommended modifications to the info file. But when I run the setup, it gives me an error message saying I am not running Vista so it can’t proceed with the installation.
Any idea why? I did install Vista, and the computer indicates that it’s running Vista. So why doesn’t NVidia know it?
Thanks,
JP
Hi
Thanks for the suggestion, i have tried that as well and it doesnt work??
have NVIDIA changed drivers? and so it doesnt work??
Hi to all,
I really don’t know, it has worked for me for the first time and I haven’t checked them for a while.
Thank you for your interest. I’ve tried M4 which worked for me.
but be careful only those drivers.
* Toshiba Common Modules version 6.04.00 Beta 1
* Intel Chipset Driver version 8.1.0.1006(Kit9095)
* Hotkey Utility for Display Devices version 2.9.3.0
Tried this out – nVidia drivers work with the final XP versions, but not with new Vista ones.
The Toshiba drivers seem to think that the OS is not Vista (because its the retail, not Beta). *shrug* I’ll keep investigating…
Hey guys, I just installed windows Vista retail, and I can’t seem to find these downloads anymore, they arn’t on the website, does anybody know where i can NOW get these drivers, or how big are they? could someone maybe email them to CD.BB.Server@gmail.com?
* Toshiba Common Modules version 6.04.00 Beta 1
* Intel Chipset Driver version 8.1.0.1006(Kit9095)
* Hotkey Utility for Display Devices version 2.9.3.0
Thanks For any help, I got the graphics wokring, but none of the laptop buttons.
Thanks
Brian
yea, the beta drivers dun exist anymore
download this 01-29-2007 Toshiba Utility TOSHIBA Value Added Package for Windows Vista (v1.0.9; 01-29-2007; 22.72M) instead of
Toshiba Common Modules version 6.04.00 Beta 1
I’ve got a Satellite Pro M30 and the instructions (which I had to tread through very carefully) meant that my graphics score went from 1 – 1.9, so no aero. Anyone got any other tweeks?
If you are looking for the Toshiba beta drivers you can download them from here:
* Toshiba Common Modules version 6.04.00 Beta 1
* Hotkey Utility for Display Devices version 2.9.3.0
Hi… Nothing at those links…just empty containers. Still keen to get to 2 for Graphics. Any more tricks up anyone elses sleeve?
I’ve given up. I just can’t get my graphics score to 2, so no visual goodies. The rest of Vista is stable so far, but so was XP!!!!! Wondering if I should have bought a new laptop… like a million other people…
u can try http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=13030
hello i have stelitte pro m30 i have installed vista, i need those drivers, but the link you provide is broken , so how can i have them,?
Man i need those 3 drivers also can some actually post them up somewhere like on rapidshare.com
I managed to find the driver for Hotkey utilities v 2.9.3.0, but it didnt seem to work. I still cant use the Fn F1 – Fn F12 keys. Any idea to solve it? Thanks.
Video driver: I used the NVIDIA 96.85 Forceware Vista driver, modified the nv_disp.inf with the following lines:
%NVIDIA_NV34.DEV_0328.1% = nv_NV3x, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0328
NVIDIA_NV34.DEV_0328.1 = “NVIDIA GeForce FX Go 5200 32/64M ”
installed the driver using the “Have Disk” method. Now Aero works fine. However I noticed that even I set the power management to turn off the display after a certain period of time, the screen does blank out, however the backlight stays on. Does anyone notice this and has a solution? I have also tried the 158.18 driver, but it does not fix the backlight problem, so I revert back to the 96.85 driver.
Also none of the Fn hotkeys work.
Hi
I tried what was suggested at the top of this page.
My score started with 1.0.
Now my score is 2.5
Those four line sure made a difference. This whole article improved my Satellite M30 – 7101U.
What started as a vista upgrade ended when I maxed out the memory to 2 G. That helped alot. Made things abit smQQther, performance wise.
I found a WD – EIDE 120G (5400rpm).
So that’s it.
My Toshlite is running reasonably good, touch wood.
I’m going to run this “baby” into the ground.
Thanx to the author for the “four lines” of code for the nVidia.

Hey guys thanks a bunch for all this info. I have successfully installed the nvidia driver for my m30 as well as the value added package. Rating is now at 2.0. Can somebody still post those beta drivers somewhere, though?
I got aero and 3d flip working perfectly, all function keys working except for f2, but I have a weird problem: My dvd rom drive only reads dvds and fails to recognise CDs. Is this related to some driver that I have not loaded? Could this be the intel chipset one? I am using the retail version of Windows Vista Ultimate.
Any help appreciated.
Besim.
Please help!!
I have tried everything and am about to lanch this Toshiba M30 into space. Please could someone help and email me the com modules and chipset to trevorwoodman@hotmail.com. I have tried downloading them and it does not work. I would also like a link to the display drivers as when I down load the file from nvidia it will not let me see the files in order to change them.
Many thanks,
Trevor
I installed Vista_98.13 from http://www.laptopvideo2go.com on my Satellite M30 and everything seems to be OK (Aero + games)
However, I can not get windows to turn off the display or change its brightness. Even when I close the lid, the display does not turn off (it remains on).
I downloaded “TOSHIBA Value Added Package” from Toshiba’s website (download section for Satellite M30), and I got the toshiba power saver, FN keys and the like, but I still can not turn off the display.
Any suggestions?
I have got Windows 7 working on my m30-304 with Aero working but cannot get my sd card slot to work. help!
Also unable to get SD slot working in win7. Device manager shows a ‘Base system Device’ that windows could find drivers for. Tried updating with XP drivers to no avail. Was able to install the ‘base system device’ with the SD host controller drivers, but once I put a sd card into the slot, windows was then unable to find drivers for ‘SD Card’. That’s as far as i got.
Hi I got that far but once I put the SD card in the slot Windows see it but will not open it because of resource conflict I followed the instructions in the sdmem-20090204162550 driver file.
Hello, resource conflict is because you used XP drivers. Remove it and use Vista drivers, exactly “Toshiba Secure Digital host controller”. Works fine on Win 7.
Hi, where can the Vista driver for the “Toshiba Secure Digital host controller” be downloaded?
Hi, I tried to find the “Toshiba Secure Digital host controller” Vista to no avail. Where can the driver be downloaded?
Owners of other unsupported NVIDIA cards can probably add support for their cards by copying the PCI\VEN information from the device in device manager
